Toastmasters was started in 1905 by Ralph Smedley. The organization offers effective coaching techniques to improve the public speaking and leadership skills, with learning paths which contain levels of Mastering Fundamentals, Learning Your Style, Increasing Knowledge, Building Skills and Demonstrating Expertise.

Our speaker Desiree King has been with Toastmasters for 6 years, serving as Division & Area Director, and receiving the prestigious Distinguished Toaster Award in 2018.

With quite a few of us harbouring a fear of public speaking, Desiree pointed out that the technique gives us confidence and awareness, helps us write a speech, presenting and stay within time and work on our networking skills. As of this year, Rotary has partnered with Toastmasters to help members enhance their personal and professional growth. It was a joy to listen to such a well spoken speaker, perhaps we can look to having a joint meeting with Desiree's club in the near future.

For more information, please go to, or contact me for Desiree's email.
