Regular Meeting -  July 27, 2020

Speaker - John Lomax
A member of the Rotary Club of Brampton since 1985, John has held the position of Club Treasurer, Club President, Vice Chair of Asia and Chair of Youth Exchange for our District. Presently John serves as Chair of D7080's Indigenous Resource Committee for Learning & Education (CIRCLE).

Having adopted and raised a son and daughter of Indigenous heritage, John has a wealth of knowledge to share with us on traditions, culture and protocol of the Indigenous people. In 2014, Honouring Indigenous Peoples (HIP) was launched by a group of Rotarians, its goal is to bring Indigenous and non Indigenous people together to Build Relationships, Learn & Share and Walk Together. For more information, go to

John treated us to some YouTube videos on POW WOW chicken dance, jingles and drumming. Thank you John for your presentation on such an interesting topic.

Announcements & Happenings
1) Happy Dates for July - Happy Birthday to Linda (July 18) and Saba (July 20). Happy Rotary Anniversary to Doug (7 years), Tom (24 years) and Claudia (1 year).


2) Dixie Club Dues - Tauqeer has sent out the invoice for 2020-21, please etransfer the Dues to him if you haven't already done so.
3) 50/50 and Happy Bucks - Sandy will collect online at each meeting to keep the tradition going. Please prepare a jar at home so you can put your money in during the meeting, when we can meet again, Sandy will collect from each member.
4) Kenya Project - Madiha presented a project helping school aged girls 9-15 years old in Kenya (please watch Silent Sacrifice and Beads of Bondage on YouTube for more info). We will be collecting books, school supplies and summer clothing to be shipped to Kenya when the COVID-19 isolation is over, possibly in July. Our club will also donate all our remaining dictionaries to them.
5) Fund Disbursement Committee - There is one opening to help Doug and Sarah on the committee, please contact them if you are interested.
6) Dixie Cup - The Dixie Cup is based on attendance at our regular meetings. For each quarter, all members who made 100% attendance will have their names in a draw, the successful winner will be able to use $200 from our Fundraising Account towards a Registered Charity of his or her choice. At the end of the year, any member who made the highest percentage will be the winner of the Cup for one year.
Congratulations to Sarah for winning the last quarter April-June, and to Phyllis for the Cup for one year.
