DGE Mike is a retired family physician with the Cambridge Sunrise Club and has been a Rotarian since 1987. In his presentation he gave us an in depth look into the history of Polio, what it is, how it spreads and when the vaccine was invented by Drs. Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin to manage the spread.
Rotary International launched the PolioPlus program in 1985 and has vaccinated more than 2.5 billion children throughout the world. A total cost of $4.5 billion has been spent on eradicating polio, and although it still exists in Afghanistan and Pakistan today, we are nearly there in beating it.
Thank you DGE Mike for your presentation via Zoom to us.
