Regular Meeting -  June 22, 2020

Congratulations to 40 years in Rotary Laurie
As a special celebration of Laurie's 40th anniversary, our club invited several former members and friends, Laurie's host daughter from South Africa and his very good friend Mayor Hazel McCallion to join in the Zoom meeting. It was a nostalgic evening, complete with good wishes from the District and a couple of videos from the club. Happy Anniversary Laurie!!

Thank you President Sandy for a very successful year despite COVID
In spite of the challenges COVID posed, we were still able to accomplish most of our goals under President Sandy's leadership.
These included:
-Being a sustaining member and sustaining club with donation of US$100 per member.
-Donation of US$450 to PolioPlus
-Fundraised with the Slushie Booth at the Mississauga Ribfest
-Worked the Registration Desk for The Parkinson's SuperWalk
-Fundraised with North Country Meat Sale
-Donated food to the Mississauga Food Bank for Thanksgiving
-Fundraised with Fundscrip Gift Cards
-Donated Christmas gifts to 3 families with the Bloor Dixie Neighbourhood
-Worked 11 nights of 3 hours each for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettles
-Donation to the Hippo Roller Water Project in Africa
-Donation to Australia Bush Fire Relief
-Donation to Ontario Parents Advocating for Children with Cancer
-Donation to Mississauga Food Bank for Easter
-Donation to Salvation Army for Food Bank
-Donation to Honouring Indigenous Peoples
-Donation to Chatting to Wellness
-Inducted 2 new members

As we cannot be together to celebrate the year end, we will postpone the festivities until we see each other again. Thank you Sandy for another successful year!!!

Announcements & Happenings
1) Happy Dates for June - Happy 30th Anniversary to Tom and Shirley, and Happy 40th Rotary Anniversary to Laurie.


2) Meat Sale - Pick up scheduled for July 20, please send all completed orders to Tom by end of day July 13.

3) Dixie Club Dues - Tauqeer has sent out the invoice for 2020-21, please etransfer the Dues to him if you haven't already done so.
4) Kenya Project - Madiha presented a project helping school aged girls 9-15 years old in Kenya (please watch Silent Sacrifice and Beads of Bondage on YouTube for more info). We will be collecting books, school supplies and summer clothing to be shipped to Kenya when the COVID-19 isolation is over, possibly in July. Our club will also donate all our remaining dictionaries to them.
5) Upcoming Dates of Importance -
October 3- District Conference at Bingemans in Kitchener, please go to District Website to register.
6) Dixie Cup - The Dixie Cup is based on attendance at our regular meetings. For each quarter, all members who made 100% attendance will have their names in a draw, the successful winner will be able to use $200 from our Fundraising Account towards a Registered Charity of his or her choice. At the end of the year, any member who made the highest percentage will be the winner of the Cup for one year.
