Speaker Rotarian Nevine Yassa
ROOTA - Rising Out of the Ashes is a Canadian Charity founded by Rotarian friend Nevine Yassa from the Scarborough Club. Its mission is to alleviate poverty and enhance education to the marginalized community in Egypt called the Zabaleen (garbage collector). The charity offers a literacy program benefitting more than 200 adults with reading and writing classes which lasts over 12 months. At the end of the program attendees undergo a final exam set by the government and those who pass are entitled to join the formal education for the preparatory stage.
The charity also provides local women with looms and sewing machines so they can create self sustaining incomes.

Thank you Nevine for such an eye opening presentation.
