The Rotary Youth Exchange Program is, in my opinion, the best program Rotary has to offer. It gives the student an experience of a different culture, a new way of living, a new language, leadership skills, and an international understanding of tolerance and peace.

Due to COVID19, the program had to be put on hold this year, but we were happy to have last year's Outbound student Serena, who completed her exchange in Taiwan, share her experience with us this week. After more than 6 months' training from our District's Youth Exchange Team, Serena left Canada on August 17, 2019 for what would be a trip of a lifetime. She spent her year in Miaoli County in Taiwan, attended a vocational high school, learned Mandarin, Chinese cooking, baking, hairstyling, play the instruments Guzheng and Ocarina, and the art of the tea ceremony. Being able to converse in Mandarin early in her exchange, Serena was loved by her Rotary Club members, school mates, as well as her 3 host families.

It was so nice to see the growth in Serena and how much she has enjoyed and learned from her exchange. It also gives us great pleasure to welcome her into our family of Rotary. To read more on her experience, you can sign on our District Website rotary7080.org, click on Committees--Youth Services--Youth Exchange--BeaverTales, or her Blog https://srye.home.blog/ and Youtube post https://youtu.be/Byk-CpgYIcg.
